CRADLE OF FILTH: More Like Low-Rent 'Cirque du Soleil' Than A Satanic Ritual

July 10, 2003

Nevada's largest "alternative newsweekly" Las Vegas Mercury has published a review of CRADLE OF FILTH's headlining show at the Huntridge on Sunday (July 6).

"CRADLE OF FILTH makes the darkest of the dark metal, rejecting virtue and embracing Satan at every opportunity," the reviewer writes. "Ironically — with its leather, lipstick and nipple-displaying mesh shirts — CRADLE OF FILTH also looks like it just stepped off the set of a VILLAGE PEOPLE video. That's not to imply that, as [preacher/politician Pat] Robertson so brusquely suggested [when he said that Satanism, Nazism and homosexuality seem to go together], the members of CRADLE OF FILTH are homosexual Nazis, but it certainly calls into question whoever's coordinating their wardrobe.

"Occasionally, a bizarre alien on stilts — who looked a bit like 'The Gimp' in 'Pulp Fiction' — wandered onto the stage and fumbled about among the musicians. And in perhaps the night's most unexpected turn, a female acrobat rode out on the alien and swung above the stage on a pair of crimson sheets that were dropped from the ceiling. All of which made the whole show look more like a low-rent 'Cirque du Soleil' than a satanic ritual." Read more.
